Each window was cut and engraved to simulate the framework and shutters. The garage door was detailed with windows and engraved to represent paneling. With paint, this model would look quite convincing. Modeling There tends to be a considerable amount of overlap between the modeling and prototyping categories. By definition, a model is a scale representation of a finished product. In this category, we’ll focus mainly on scale architectural models. These can be as simple or as complex as manufacturing and materials allow. Building in miniature Modeling is perfectly suited for laser manufacturing. We use materials such as foam core boards, acrylics and Baltic birch plywood, all common materials for building architectural models. In the case of the Baltic birch ply, details such as siding, brick and roof shingles can be engraved directly onto the boards. When painted, these details look strikingly realistic. Other details such as windows are cut and engraved out of a single piece, a wall for instance, thus minimizing overall build time. For extreme detail work, we can engrave and pattern cut 0.005” thin wood sheets which are available in four varieties – cherry, maple, birds-eye maple and walnut. These have a self- adhesive backing for ease of assembly. Endless possibilities Of course, buildings are not the only modeling subjects out there. Ribs for aircraft wings, ship decking, railroad boxcars, diorama accessories and much more can be made to order. If you have an idea for a great model, please contact us today.
