FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Do you cut glass, metal or tile?
No, our CO2 laser is not capable of cutting glass, metal or tile. However, we can easily engrave on all of those.
For a detailed list of the materials we work with, click here.
What’s the thickest material your laser will cut through?
We can cut wood and acrylic up to 1/4” thick.
What’s the biggest project that will fit inside your laser?
We can accommodate projects up to a maximum size of 24” long, 18” wide and 9” high.
How thin is the kerf, or cut, of the laser beam?
Our laser has a spot size as small as 0.005” in diameter, ideal for extremely thin cuts in material.
Can you engrave on stainless steel and chrome?
Yes. For stainless and chrome, we use a special coating process which leaves a nice dark engraving.
Can you engrave on silver or gold?
Unfortunately, no. Silver and gold are too dense to work with the coating needed to engrave on bare metals.
What types of wood engrave the best?
Maple and alder give you the best contrast, producing a nice, dark engraving. Cherry also works well but with less
contrast. Walnut and oak are generally too dark for engraving. For 3D carving and texturing, alder and cherry are
well suited due to their tight pores. Oak has much larger pores and does not retain laser carved details very well.
What fonts can I choose from when getting projects engraved?
For a list of recommended fonts, click here. Some are ideal for wood and acrylic engraving, others are better suited
for glass.
What types of materials can be used for engraving photos?
Photos can be successfully engraved onto wood (maple, alder), coated metals (anodized aluminum), marble,
granite, tile (Laser Tile) and special papers such as scratchboard. Glass does not work well for photos due to its low
contrast range.
